9600 Conﬁgurations

There are many combinations of PCI cards that can be installed and work together. The upper PCI

slots (A1, B1, and C1) are controlled by one PCI arbitrator chip. This chip also handles the Power

Macintosh I/O functions. A separate PCI arbitrator chip handles the trafﬁc for the lower PCI slots

(D2, E2, and F2). Because this chip does not handle I/O trafﬁc, it has better bandwidth. Our

recommendations are guidelines for you to follow. However, if you run into compatibility

problems with your particular conﬁguration, you may need to try different slot assignments.
